The
first app, Pipe, isn’t released yet. This will be an app to allow Facebook
users to share or send files of any kind, including audio, video and pictures,
of up to 1GB in size. The developers explain that the transfer will be
real-time and protected.
The second app, Dropify, was launched in Cologne a
couple years ago by Mike Lieser, Alex Heilmann, and Chris Striepecke. It helped
Facebook users upload and explore files, including .pdf and .doc, along with
music and video content, archives, etc. The developers of the app say that
Dropify is regarded as a fun way for users to publish and discover free files.
The matter is that traditional file downloads feature very limited visibility,
while their app allows users to share the download activity with their friends
on their timeline and news feed. Taking into account that there are over one billion
users on Facebook each month, one can realize that this will result in major
coverage. As a result, people will discover new musicians, brands, and other
content creators they haven’t known before.
